In 2025, the financial sector in Spain accounted for nearly 34% of malware cyberattacks, putting critical data and operations at risk and potentially causing millions in losses. This is just one of many affected sectors—from transportation to healthcare—all exposed to disruptions, data theft, and regulatory consequences.

Most Targeted Sectors in Spain

In Spain, the financial sector clearly leads the list of targets, accounting for approximately 34% of detected incidents. The high volume of sensitive data and critical financial operations make it a priority target for cybercriminals. Following the banking sector, transportation represents 14% of attacks due to its reliance on digital systems for logistics and mobility, where any disruption can result in significant financial losses.

The public administration ranks third, with 10% of incidents, putting sensitive information and the continuity of essential services at risk. The healthcare sector receives nearly 9% of attacks, with a particular impact on patient data and critical operations. Meanwhile, telecommunications and energy account for 7–8% of attacks, sectors that support critical infrastructure and essential services.

Most Targeted Sectors Globally

At a global level, attackers prioritize sectors that allow broad impact, affecting services, production, and supply chains. Services lead with over 37% of attacks, including business and public services that handle large volumes of sensitive information. Manufacturing accounts for 23% of incidents due to its value for industrial espionage and the potential to combine malware attacks with ransomware.

Business services represent approximately 12% of attacks, given their reliance on digital systems and strategic data. Consumer goods and construction/engineering account for 9–11%, key sectors for ongoing operations and strategic contracts. Healthcare and government combined make up nearly 13% of attacks, reflecting the critical value of their data and the need to maintain continuity of essential services.
