How to recover lost bookmarks in Google Chrome

Bookmarks are an essential tool for organising your information, and keeping track of what you prioritise and where you want it to go. With so much information available in a couple of clicks, getting organised is becoming increasingly important. Did you accidentally delete your bookmarks? Is there a way to recover deleted bookmarks from Chrome?

Here are four ways to retrieve your Google Chrome bookmarks from PC or mobile.

Find your Chrome history

If you accidentally deleted your Google Chrome history or bookmarks, you may have a backup copy in your local folder. You should find it here:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage.

Use a program to recover your Chrome bookmarks

If you haven't found a backup on your computer, don't panic, you still have a couple of options for recovering your history and bookmarks. You can download a data recovery software, such as Recuva.
Recuva can also assist you with data recovery jobs, such as deleted files, photos and has a free version.

Use Google History

This will only work if you have a Google account. This method involves accessing your Google browsing history. To do this, you should go to Google History; Sign in to your Google Account; Tab History.

The problem with this method is that it doesn't work if you have recently deleted your history, or if you want to retrieve bookmarks that you haven't visited for a long time.

Use the DNS cache

If you have lost your bookmarks or favourites due to a Chrome update, you can use this method.

First press Windows+R to open the Run screen. Type cmd and press OK. A screen with a black background will appear. Then, simply type ipconfig /displaydns and press enter. All of the sites you have recently visited will be listed. At this point you should review the list and add those that you consider as favourites in Chrome.

As you can see, recovering your Chrome bookmarks is not an impossible task, and with a few simple steps you might be able to do it.
